Happy Easter - He is Risen

This morning my kids made us breakfast in bed.  It was so sweet of them.  We went to a lovely outdoor Easter Service and then went out for a nice family lunch.  I feel very blessed.

Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life.  The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.  Do you believe this?"

Awards Assembly

Today Christian (7th Grade) and Lily (3rd Grade) both received "Character Trait" awards at school.  Lily received an award for "Courage" (Joshua 1:9) and Christian received an award "Respect" (1Thessalonians 5:12-13).  I feel like these character trait awards are a good representation of them and I am so very proud of both of them.  I'm so glad I was able to take off work to be there when they received their awards.

Remember, I commanded you to be strong and brave.  Don't be afraid, because the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
Joshua 1:9

12.  Now brothers and sisters, we ask you to recognize the value of those who work hard among you--those who, as followers of the Lord, care for you and tell you how to live.  13.  Show them the highest respect and love because of the work they do.  1Thessalonians 5:12-13

Graziela V. Bernal 10/03/20 - 03/07/14

This morning my mother-in-law, Grace passed away.  She was 93 years old and had a long and good life.  She was able to recognize all of us even to the very end.  She wasn't in pain and she was comfortable when she passed on to be with her Lord and Savior.  She's left us with a lot of good memories.  We will miss her and she will be in our hearts forever.

This photo was taken in December 1997 and this is how I will always remember her.  She always liked to dress nice and have her hair done.  She always wore her gold cross and often wore a pin on her sweater or blouse.  In this photo she's wearing her "Jesus" pin which she wore often.

Happy 4th of July

I want to wish everyone a happy 4th of July holiday. May God bless you and your family and may God bless America.

Today our family had a great time at The Welk Resort.
We had fun swimming in the pool.

There's nothing like cooling off in the pool on a hot day.

We enjoyed some sweet treats like ice cream,
and Hawaiian shaved ice.

We played some pool and noticed Christian's skills have really improved!

We enjoyed the beautiful scenery,
 and the sunshine.

We had a good day making memories.

Lily didn't want to leave.  She said she wished we could live at the Welk Resort.

Tournament of Champions

Christian's baseball team, The Royals finished their regular season in first place and then went on to represent Valley De Oro Little League in the District 66 Tournament of Champions.  They won their first game of the championships with a stunning 27-7 victory over Las Palmas Little League.

The Royals then went on to win the second game of the championships over Spring Valley Little League and Christian scored  his first homerun of the season.  Fortunately one of the mom's caught it on video on her ipad.  Watch the video below.

In the last game of the Tournament of Champions the Royals faced off against an undefeated Twin Hills Little League team. The teams were very evenly matched with neither team scoring in the first three innings. In the fourth inning the Spring Valley team scored an out-the-park home run making the score 0-1.  In the fifth inning Valley De Oro scored a run and tied the score at 1-1.  At the bottom of the sixth inning The Royals got two runners on base.  Christian came up to bat with a runner on second and a runner on third.  Christian hit the ball past first base and brought in the runner on third winning the game 2-1.  Watch the video below.

The Royals won the District 66 Championship!  This is the first time in Valley De Oro Little League history that VDO has won the Tournament of Champions.  They win the trophy and a banner that will be on display at the VDO baseball field.    There was a lot of clapping, shouting and cheering from the boys, the coaches and parents. It was an exciting end to a great season!

Schools Out!

Christian has successfully completed 5th grade.  He had a great teacher and he learned a lot this year.  He memorized the Gettysburg Address and the Preamble to the Constitution.  He received  two character trait awards this year, one for honesty and one for courtesy.  He also went on a school trip to Sacramento and San Francisco.  Christian's favorite class activity was making butter with his class and eating the sweet, creamy butter on bread.

Lily successfully completed 1st grade.  She had two really great teachers that she really liked.  She participated in the speech meet for the first time and won third place.  She received a character trait award this year for knowledge.  Her favorite activity was making quesadillas in class.  She really enjoyed the class field trip to the Reuben H Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park were they got to see an IMAX movie about bugs, explore the science center exhibits and play in the park.
