The Mexican Riviera

Here we are just before boarding the Carnival Spirit for an 8 day cruise of the Mexican Riviera. Alex found a good deal on the cruise and we decided to book it for the week of Thanksgiving since Christian is off from school that week, and Alex gets Thanksgiving and the day after off as paid holidays. We had a fabulous time on the cruise. We stopped in Acapulco where we got to see the famous cliff divers. We stopped in Ixtapa where we spent the afternoon at a beautiful beach, swimming and riding the banana boat. We also stopped in Manzanillo where we spent the day at a beautiful, luxury resort that was right on the beach. We swam in the ocean and we also swam in the pool. Christian had a blast going down the pool slide while we were there. We also got to have all we could eat at the resort restaurants. We spent Thanksgiving on board the ship and we enjoyed a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes (my favorite), mashed potatoes and green beans. For desert we had pumpkin pie. We have a lot to be thankful for.

Enjoying a lemonade on the Lido deck as we leave San Diego.

Alex, Christian and Lily on the top deck of the cruise ship. Alex is holding the stuffed animals that Christian and Lily made while they were at Camp Carnival. They had a "Build a Bear" type workshop and Lily chose a calico cat she named "Loveheart" and Christian chose a dog he named "Scruffles" of "Scruff" for short.

Here Lily and Christian are posing with a towel animal that our room steward made. Lily had her face painted at Camp Carnival. The kids had a great time at Camp Carnival. They had so much fun there that they hardly wanted anything to do with Mommy and Daddy and wanted to spend all their free time at Camp Carnival.
That's our cruise ship in the background. Christian is posing in front of Fort San Diego in Acupulco, Mexico. The fort is right across from the cruise terminal so we decided to explore it. The kids loved it. It had real cannons and everything!
We had a lot of fun in Acapulco. We toured the fort. The fort is up on a hill and the view from up there is gorgeous. We also did some shopping, and then we walked along the beach. That night we saw the cliff divers which was totally spectacular.

This painting is hanging in the Fuerto de San Diego (Fort San Diego Museum). I don't know who the painter is, but we really liked the painting so Alex snapped a picture of it. It looks like the hand of God guiding the ship.

Posing for a picture with the real cannons.

This shot was taken from the beach in Acapulco.

Here we are on the beach in Ixtapa. This was our favorite stop on the cruise. We ate lunch on the beach and swam in the warm, clear water. It was wonderful!

Enjoying dinner in the formal dinning room.

Christian tries escargot for the first time. He liked it!

We had a great time on our cruise. We all hated to leave the comfort of our ship. We had become very spoiled. Lily began to cry as we were disembarking. She kept saying "I don't want to leave the ship" over and over. She cried and cried and repeated "I don't want to leave the ship" over and over as we left the ship, as we went through the terminal, as we walked to our shuttle, as we drove down the freeway. She cried until we were halfway home. Like I said we became a little spoiled on the cruise, especially the kids. They got to eat sugar cereal every morning (something Mommy never buys). They got to have ice cream and hot chocolate whenever they wanted. All they had to do was walk up to one of the dispensers and serve themselves. SPOILED!

The cruise sounds like fun. I think I'd also cry if I had to leave the boat, too!
